Rhode Island Students of the Future will hold FLL Qualifying tournaments, all sponsored by National Grid, during the 2015-16 Trash Trek Season:
The qualifier dates will be announced in September 2015. The qualifying tournaments feed into these events:
FLL Championship Tournament, sponsored by National Grid, in early January at Roger Williams University's Recreation Center. This event is managed by Rhode Island Students of the Future in partnership with Roger Williams University.
FLL Robot Invitational, managed by Rhode Island Students of the Future in partnership with Bryant University
We thank our 2014-15 qualifying tournament partners: Vanessa Miller (Pier Middle School), Kevin Reilly (AIR 4H), Andy Pratt (All Saints Academy) and Dr. Michael Thombs (Salve Regina University), and Nick Terry (Gordon School), our FLL Championship partner, Roger Williams University and our FLL Invitational partner, Bryant University.
To participate in the FIRST LEGO League Rhode Island tournament system, your team must be based in Rhode Island or include at least one child who lives in Rhode Island. Your team must be registered with FIRST.
To be eligible to advance to the state championship, teams competed in all three judged areas of FLL: Robot Game, Project and Core Values. Our judges will use the Champion’s Awards criteria to rank all of the teams, and the top teams on that list at each qualifier will advance.
Each tournament will also give awards in each category (Robot Performance, Robot Design/Programming, Project and Core Values), winning an award DOES NOT ensure a team will advance. A team that focuses all their energy on the robot and has a lackluster project may not score well in the overall Champion’s criteria, and for that reason might win a Robot Performance or Robot Design award but not advance to the State Championship.
