January 29, 2004 - The T-shirt design contests will be will be held during the meeting on February 26, 2004.

If your students would like to participate in the 2004 tee-shirt design activity and have the chance to have their design concept chosen for the 2004 tee-shirt (front of the shirt) for Robotics Park the guiding criteria are given below.

1. Up to 4 colors maybe applied to the design.

2. Submit the design, including a slogan, on an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper at (or before) the February 26th meeting or received by postal mail to Denis by February 25th. These will reviewed at the February meeting and a final design and/or designs will be selected.

3. Try to capture the (educational) spirit and flavor of the event in the logo and slogan of your designs. The theme this year is 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road.'

4. The tee-shirt's color for 2004 will be decided after the final design is chosen.

5. Keep in mind that ideas from more than one submission may be chosen and combined into one for a final design. For instance, we could take the slogan from one design and the graphic of another and combine them.

6. Make sure students understand that all design concepts will be rendered by a professional on a computer to make them appropriate for screen-printing. It is the concept that we are looking for in their design

7. Thanks in advance to all those creative thinkers and doers that plan to contribute to this design activity. Let me encourage all of you to get the gears meshing as we begin to prepare for Robotics Park 2004!

January 28, 2004

  • Robotic Park will take place on Saturday April 3rd, 2004 at the Community College of RI in Warwick from 10:30 - 3:00
  • Robotic Park Registration will open in mid-February. You need to be on the RISF email list to get a registration password.

Events for Robotic Park 2004 will include:

  • Robot Rubbish Round-up
  • Animal Design Project
  • Interactive Design Project
  • Hasbro/Sally Ride Toy Design Challenge in the "Remarkable Robots" category only: www.toychallenge.com/categories.shtml
  • Chain Reaction Machines
  • ...and soon to be announced an adult/hobbyist robotics Challenge (Stay Tuned)

We expect to have 53 "booths" available for displays and space for a number of Chain Reaction machines. The "site map" will be posted on the Robotics Park registration page in the near future.

Each booth will measure approximately 10' x 10' square. Some of the booth sites have a large column on their perimeter so be flexible with yourset-up. This year you may choose to have up to 2 tables, either 5' or 6' long, or one of each, at your booth. There is a 7' height restriction on the displays. You can count on having at least a single electrical plug for your booth. You should plan on bringing an extension cord and a "power strip" if you need multiple outlets.

Chain Reaction Machines can select two size table set-ups of either 3 foot or 5 foot in length with a width of 30 inches. More detailed Chain Reaction information will be posted soon. Also remember the height restrictions from the floor of 7 feet.

Set-up will take place on "Robotics Morning", Saturday April 3, 2004. There will be no set-up on Friday night this year, please plan accordingly.

We will continue to distribute facilities information here and via the email list as it is confirmed.
